Royal Town of Caernarfon Golf Club Player Reports

We played Caernarfon as part of a 5 course tour, taking in Neffyn, Porthmadog, Abersoch and Harlech. This was the Monday course and at our tee time of 1100 hours we were greeted with torrential rain and gale force winds. The fact that we teed off at 1600 hours, (or at all), is a great credit to the greenstaff. The course is very enjoyable, lush fairways and excellent greens, with some very challenging holes, especially when it is blowing a `hooley`. Thanks to the pro and the rest of the staff for their patience as we waited for the rain to clear, a very friendly club. We will certainly return and would recommend it to anyone.

Caernarfon Golf course is a hidden gem. Every hole is different, and you very rarely play the same shot twice. I have played this course about 50 odd times and it never fails to immpress me. We have used the course numerous times for our County matches/championships, And every competitor has commented on what a good course it is. The condition of the course has improved immensely over the last 5 years. Where as in the past, the greens have been the "let down" of the course. Not in terms of condition, but in terms of pace. But the last 5 or so years, the Greens Staff seem to have addressed the problem and come up with lovely paced greens. You may think that I have links with the Club, but that is not the case, I am a local Greenkeeper who appreciates a good golf course and a Club and Staff that all seem to be pulling in the same direction.I would go as far as saying that Caernarfon is a MUST play for all standards, and for you city people the views are nothing short of stunning.

I visited North Wales on a golfing trip and went to Caernarfon, Anglesey and Prthmadog. Caernarfon was definitely the blandest course, very parkland, although the views were spectacular. However, even the holes by the sea didnt' play like links holes. Also the greens were very poor, despite it being end of May and recent decent weather.
Its OK but nothing great.

I made a one hundred and fifty mile round trip to play this course - and I felt the journey so worthwhile that I am planning to do it again next week.
The course is interesting in so many ways. There are a lot of different holes within the course. Most of time you are playing a parklands course and then all of a sudden it plays like a links course.
The views around are superb. In one direction you see Mount Snowden and then next you are looking across the waters of the Menia Straits and then to Anglesey.
And then once you have played the course, you are treated like a local in the clubhouse. There is no stuffiness, just a nice welcome from both staff and members alike.
