Day three, and the wind was still blowing strong, now with some light drizzle before we teed off.
Conwy is the best course of the four we played, all the holes ask questions, which today I had no answer for. My dad unforetunately had few answers all weekend, links aren't his cup of tea, yet anyway... The clubhouse was the sort of clubhouse you expect from a club like this, with proper practise facilities near the 1st tee.
After receiving our scorecards, and a rather handy strokesaver booklet which was much appreciated, we teed off. The first four holes at Conwy are holes which are testing holes, but nothing that would get you too worried if you are a confident ball striker. The 5th, 7th and 8th are a different prospect all long par 4's with holes 5 and 7 playing like par 5's due to the prevailing wind.
I really enjoyed the test, despite slumping to a 92 (20 over). Beautiful views, great greens, and tight fairways. One downside was the pace of play, the society that was at North Wales yesterday were here today, again we followed them round! This time we took 10 minutes under 5 hours to play, the longest round I've ever played, don't know about it being used as an Open championship qualifier, some of those players must of thought they were in the Open the way they had to tap out the 1 foot putts.
Id highly recommend this course if you are in the area, book a tee time early in the morning if possible so you can fit 2 rounds in.

This is an excellent links course but when the wind blows I would imagine it is very difficult particularly on the back nine which I assume has spoilt many potentially good scores. In the first week of June , it was in excellent condition. However, the average golfer should not venture into some of the bunkers without a 'Hamlet'. I am sure I will be back again - it is well worth a visit.

When we arrived, the wind was howling, the rain was coming down, but dutifully we put on the inclement weather gear!! By the time we came out of the changing rooms, the rain had gone, sun was out, but the wind had increased to gale force 6! That made the shot selection very interesting, however, the course itself was in very good condition, and the greens were of a high quality. As an open qualifier, from the blue tees, I can imagine this would have been a huge challenge! Fairly flat, with some interesting if slightly less challenging short par 3s (from the yellow tees)

Without a doubt, Conwy provides any visitor with a great links experience. The added bonus is that this applies all year round.
We visited in January 2005 and, aided by a lull in the weather, enjoyed a course in superb condition.......dry underfoot and not a temporary green in sight. The winter package of 18 holes and a 3 course meal for only £25 is great value.
I believe the course is going to be used as a Qualifier when the Open comes to Liverpool and this is evident with improvements and rebuilding of many bunkers around the course. This didn’t detract from the course at all and we were grateful for some of them being GUR as once they are in play in the Summer there will no doubt be a few cigars being lit in them!
If you are fed up in the winter slapping around in the mud and putting into bucket sized holes in the middle of fairways, then visit North Wales to remind yourself what golf should be like.

I played the course during the Bobby Jones Week in July 2004, the clubhouse and facilities are excellent. There is a good prctice ground but, you need to take and retrieve your own balls I believe.
The course itself would be wonderful, but for the fairways which are very, very disappointing. There are many sparse areas with only scant evidence grass. Playing an iron is a precision task.
The greens are good and some of the holes are a real challenge. Stroke indexing is bemusing , how a very difficult Par 5 (9th hole) can be Stroke 17 is a real puzzle.
I found Conway a very good test of golf, pity about the fairways, a friend remarked that you get a better lie in the semi-rough!
The pro is a real gent and the the hand-pulled beer in the 19th is great.
