A very old course dating back to 1890 and famous for being the place where Frank Stableford invented his scoring system. Lots of bunkers, lots of trees all with giant magnets to attract your ball. Although a mature course many of the trees around the top of the course only date back to 20 year old plantations. Quite hilly and quite tricky to navigate around without careful attention to a course planner. The views across the Bristol Channel from the 16th green are stunning. Well maintained course and greens and welcoming clubhouse. The only slight disappointment was that there are 6 par 3s and you felt the course would benefit from a bit more distance around the 12th/13th/14th corner. A pleasing test of golf, where you are left feeling that increased familiarity with the course could lead to an improvement in your performance.

Played this course after the dreadful Celtic Manor and it restored my faith. Very friendly welcome from the pro and members. Very nice course which is kept in very good condition. Designed nicely so you don't realise at times that you are taking on some steep terrain. Not much water to worry about but the trees keep you on your toes. Apparently this is the course that stableford was invented and Mr Stapleford was a member. I look forward to playing it again sometime.
