Welshpool Golf Club Player Reports

Situated on the top of a hill just west of Welshpool, on a clear day this course provides commanding views across miles of the mid Wales countryside. The course is an interesting, fairly short heathland set up that is shared with sheep. There were a lot of sheep droppings over the fairways, but the greens were in immaculate condition all of which are surrounded by electric fences to keep the sheep at bay. It is worth taking time to read the local rules about fences, sheep droppings etc.
Some interesting and challenging holes, the most spectacular being the drive from the 18th tee perched high up above a deep valley.

Society Day held on Sat 25 June. Great value for money at £28 for 27 holes, breakfast, lunch and evening meal.
Course in reasonable condition for type that it is. Greens consistent and in good condition. Some average holes but the 18th is spectacular (driving over a valley). Care must be exercised with rough and gorse on every hole. If you stray off the tee, then you'll be lucky to find it.
Worth hiring a buggy (£15 a round) for those who aren't up to the walk.
Friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse.

What a corker ! Its a cross between hill walking and golf. By the time you get to your ball you need a minute to get your breath. Good layout though and the blind holes are never unfair. The course is not in the best condition but then thats not really what this place is about. Some great holes and fantastic views make this a really fun day out. Those who dare to play here will be rewarded with several tee shots from high tees which seem to hang forever against the majestic views as they drop the 70 or so feet to the fairway below. If you're of good health give this a go - it will make you smile I guarantee. Dont wear soft spikes though or you might end up on your bum on some of the decents (like me). Enjoy !

A superb old established course, not for the faint hearted.Take your courage in both hands, hope for kind weather and do not expect to finish with the ball you started with!! In clear weather the views will stay with you for years to come,do not worry about your score just enjoy it.
